Who We Are
Sphera Energy is a clean energy platform based in Italy and focused on delivering utility-scale Energy Storage assets that enable the decarbonization of electrical grids. Founded by a team of Renewable industry veterans, Sphera Energy benefits from decades of combined entrepreneurial and corporate experience in delivering investment grade projects and growing clean energy businesses in Italy and Globally.
The Challenge
The transition of electricity networks to net zero is underway, but a lot remains to be done. While Solar PV plants and Wind farms will increasingly generate clean power that displaces fossil fuels, advanced network infrastructure projects will provide the flexibility that enables the grid system to remain in balance, cope with intermittency, and drive towards complete decarbonization. What our grids need is secure and reliable Renewable baseload, which will only be possible through Energy Storage.
Vision and Values
We believe that economic development and energy availability will soon be decoupled from fossil fuels, pollution and environmental degradation. We are against energy waste, but we believe in energy democracy and ample availability of clean power. We support distributed generation and energy independence. We are against reliance on fossil fuel imports. We pride ourselves on trust, integrity.
Mission
At Sphera Energy we identify, develop, finance and implement Energy Storage projects that drive decarbonization of the electricity network. We work with landowners, communities, industry leading technology providers and advisors to ensure our projects meet the strictest criteria of sophisticated international investors and funders. We differentiate ourselves by managing the entire development lifecycle from the initial concept to delivery of shovel ready investable assets.

Sustainability is the cornerstone of everything we do. This goes all the way from our fundamental mission to decarbonize the grid, to our strict business ethics code. It manifests itself in our curated approach to the environmental integration of our projects: from visual and noise mitigations to biodiversity preservation, we leave no stone unturned. Communication is always key. We operate locally with landowners and communities to ensure all stakeholders have a say.

Business Development leader in the Renewables space with +15 years experience leading organizations dedicated to originating, developing and closing development, sales and procurement transactions for Wind, Solar PV and Storage assets across mature and emerging markets. Global career spanning Europe, APAC and the US with large corporates Vestas, Siemens and Canadian Solar, as well as entrepreneurial fund-backed platforms Asterion Energies and Building Energy.
Paolo Fagnoli
Partner
Renewables development veteran with +19 years of origination, development, permitting, transaction and execution experience across Solar PV, Wind, Biomass and Hydropower in Europe, Africa and Middle-East. Former head of development for the international IPP platform Building Energy and, prior to that, SunPower Italy. Highly skilled in land sourcing, negotiation and contracting, permitting, tendering, PPAs, EPC, technical and financial optimization of projects and pipelines.
Edoardo Bosco
Business Development Manager
Business Development manager in Renewables with +6 years experience in strategy, market analysis and project development of Storage assets across a range of EMEA markets. Previously Storage Development Manager in Canadian Solar, and prior to that Consultant at Energy & Strategy, the Energy advisory firm of Politecnico di Milano. Deep knowledge of energy markets, regulatory frameworks and Storage business models across European markets.
Corrado Landi
Project Manager
Project Development Manager in the renewables sector with +4 years of experience in technical and financial analysis and development of solar, wind and storage energy projects in the Italian market. Previously Project Engineer at engineering consulting company Montana SPA and Engineering & Construction specialist at an IPP company.
Excellent knowledge of technical plant feasibility, regulatory frameworks and permitting processes in the Italian market.
Christine Cabrillos
Comms & Admin Associate
Communication & Administration Associate responsible for coms, branding and digital marketing as well as supporting multiple administrative and documentation management activities.
Previous experience as trainee Community Associate at IWG (Regus) where she focused on customer care and corporate engagement. Previously collaborated with consulting company Tacoma where she worked on planning and developing strategic communication campaigns.
Alessandro Pellegrini
Head of Technical Development
Senior Project Development and Technical Manager with over 16 years of experience in the renewable energy sector in Italy and abroad.
Expert in developing, procuring, engineering, managing, and supervising on-site construction activities for multi-megawatt solar, CPV, and battery energy storage systems.
Previously held key roles as Technical Project Manager at Solaria Energia S.p.A., Enerray S.p.A., Soitec Solar GmbH.
Morena Pompignoli
President
Finance and Administration executive with over 30 years of experience in a variety of functions ranging across financial management, compliance and governance, human resources, risk management as well as M&A and extraordinary corporate transactions.
Long standing CFO and Board Member in Combigas Group, including directorship and executive roles in the group’s holding companies. Previously CFO of SunPower’s Italian branch and M&A consultant.
Luca Bandini
Partner
President and CEO of Combigas Group. Entrepreneur in the energy sector for +20 years, pioneered the Solar PV sector in Italy with the founding in 2001 of Solar Solutions, a project development company later acquired by SunPower.
Subsequently developed and invested in several Solar PV and Hydropower assets in Italy. From 2011 to 2019 served as President and shareholder of the international IPP platform Building Energy with activities across Europe, Africa, USA and Latam..

Sphera Energy is backed by Combigas Group, a long standing energy sector group based in the north of Italy, in Emilia Romagna, with +300 mEUR of yearly turnover. Combigas has been active for 40 years across a broad range of energy-related businesses from trading of petroleum products to petrol stations, to energy efficiency solutions, to cogeneration equipment as well as B2C and B2B renewable energy solutions.
